On October 3rd, We care about conservation initiatives. Specifically, we planted two types of milkweed(Asclepias Tuberosa and Asclepias Syriaca) along with pokeweed rhizomes. Thankfully we got the rhizomes from a local butterfly farm property since milkweed typically grows faster when they sprout from rhizomes.
These will start to germinate in the spring but they will grow wildflowers in the spring. It's good to start planting the seeds from October to January.
One of the major reasons why butterflies are going extinct is because of the major habitat loss for feeding and laying eggs.
Monarchs are entirely dependent on milkweeds in their summer breeding range because that is when they migrate.
